Agriculture constitutes the most significant part of Indian economy. It has undergone rapid transformation in the past four decades. The policies of globalization and liberalization have opened up new avenues of Agricultural modernization. This has not only led to commercialization but also triggered various technological and institutional innovations owing to investment in this sector.
Currently Indian Agriculture faces challenges in high-input, resource-intensive farming systems, which have caused massive deforestation, water scarcities, land degradation and climate change and green house emissions which cannot deliver sustainable food and agricultural production. Country is facing second-generation problems, especially related to sustainability, food and security, nutrition, the adoption of advance agricultural technologies. Climate change affects negatively in food-insecure regions, endangering crop, livestock and fish production as well as soil, water and air pollution. To overcome these challenges there is need of transformative process towards ‘holistic’ approaches, such as agroecology, agro-forestry, climate-smart precision agriculture and adoption of conservation agriculture.
Since, major source of the socioeconomic change in the vicinity of this region is farming, the formation of agriculture education platform through establishing educational institute had paramount importance. It is known that the overall smart village development is possible through quality human resource by providing good quality agriculture education to the youth especially women group. Taking into account this need the founder Hon. Jaywantrao Bhosale (Appasaheb) took the initiative and started Krishna College of Agriculture, in 2003. The college has well established laboratories, digital class rooms, seminar hall and playground. Farm facilities are being developed on large scale in order to provide on farm practical exposure to the students. A team of well qualified and devoted teachers in various subjects are putting their maximum efforts for imparting quality agricultural education to the students. The institution is committed to the execution of innovative, placement-oriented and professional academic programmes so as to facilitate the students to face challenges of the modern globalized world. The faculty is counseling the students regularly for their academic developments, higher studies and to take up various competitive examinations.
It will be our objective to ensure that the college leads from the front in agricultural education, research and outreach. I believe it is an honor and privilege to be able to work along a highly motivated and committed faculty to ensure the excellence in offering the quality education and all-round development of the students.
